Kolkata, 22 February (H.S.): As the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections draw near, political activity in the state is heating up. National-level leaders from various political parties are increasingly visiting Bengal. Amidst this political atmosphere, Delhi Chief Minister and BJP leader Rekha Gupta offered prayers at Kolkata's famous Kalighat Kali Temple on Sunday morning.
Rekha Gupta, who arrived at the Kalighat Temple early in the morning, was seen wearing a light pink sari and a saffron-colored dhoti. Amid tight security, she entered the temple, offered prayers to Goddess Kali, and performed the rituals. Her presence in the temple premises naturally sparked discussions in political circles.
Political analysts began questioning whether this visit was solely based on religious faith or intended to convey a political message ahead of the assembly elections. When journalists questioned her, she smiled and avoided any political comment.
However, according to state BJP sources, Rekha Gupta also attended a women's conference organized by the BJP Mahila Morcha at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata on Sunday afternoon. Several senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Annapurna Devi and former Union Minister Devashree Chaudhuri, were present at the conference.
Political experts believe that the frequent visits of national leaders to Bengal ahead of the assembly elections are no coincidence. Whether this is a mere courtesy visit or part of a larger election strategy remains to be seen. However, the Delhi Chief Minister's presence at the Kalighat Temple is being seen as an important political signal ahead of the elections.
