Kolkata, 22 February (H.S.): West Bengal government minister and Trinamool Congress MLA from Ballygunge, Babul Supriyo, on Sunday strongly reacted to a protest by the Indian Youth Congress via social media. He called the shirtless protest by Youth Congress workers during the AI Summit inappropriate and irresponsible.
In his post, Babul Supriyo stated that such a protest on a platform attended by international leaders and global business leaders sends the wrong message about the country's priorities. He categorically stated that everyone has the right to protest in a democracy, but it is equally important to exercise responsibility.
The Trinamool MLA wrote that when India is represented on the world stage, maturity and restraint should be displayed instead of political theatrics. He also said that political differences can be fought for, but the price should not be paid by compromising the country's dignity and honor.
Babul Supriyo's comments are being seen as a growing political conflict between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress. However, till the time of filing of this news, no official response had come from the Indian Youth Congress on this issue.
