Kolkata, 21 February (H.S.) : Marking International Mother Language Day, the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of the Government of West Bengal on Friday announced the list of recipients for this year’s state civil honours.

Acclaimed actor and filmmaker Parambrata Chattopadhyay will be conferred the prestigious “Banga Bhushan” award for his significant contribution to cinema. Known for his impactful presence in Bengali films, Chattopadhyay has also established himself in the Hindi film industry and earned recognition as a director. The state government cited his multifaceted contribution to the film world as the basis for the honour.

In the field of music, the “Banga Bibhushan” award will be presented to noted artistes Sriradha Bandyopadhyay, Nachiketa Chakraborty, Lopamudra Mitra and Babul Supriyo for their outstanding contributions. Eminent painter Ganesh Haloi and poet Srijato Bandyopadhyay also feature among the awardees.

Other recipients of the “Banga Bhushan” honour this year include singers Monomoy Bhattacharya, Raghav Chatterjee and Rupankar Bagchi. Folk artistes Kartik Das Baul and Aditi Munshi are also among those selected.

Reacting to the announcement, singer Iman Chakraborty, who has been named for the “Banga Bibhushan”, expressed gratitude to the state government. She described the recognition as a matter of pride and extended her best wishes for the continued growth of Bengali music and language.
