Solapur, 21 Feb (HS); Although BJP succeeded in

nominating 14 out of 16 members ion the Standing Committee, the meeting of the

Solapur Municipal Corporation experienced pandemonium relating to maintaining

secrecy in the process. ALMIM and Shiv Sena secured one seats each in the

Standing Committee.

The Opposition raise strong objections on the procedure

for co-option of the members. Shiv Sena leader Amol Shinde, Chetan Narote of

Congress and MIM members tried to corner the ruling BJP. Slogans were raised as

they could not get satisfactory replies. As the disturbance increased due to

allegations and counter allegation between the ruling and the opposition

members, Mayor Vinayak Kondyal had to adjourn the meeting. The ruling party

members immediately left the premises.

The opposition members started raising objections

right from the beginning as the meeting started about 30 minutes behind the

schedule. The process of electing the Chairperson of the Standing Committee

will be undertaken soon.
