Kolkata, 21 February (H.S.) : A young woman was shot and injured in Sujapur under the jurisdiction of Kaliachak Police Station on Friday afternoon, triggering tension in the Nayabasti area.

The incident took place at Goyesh Bari in Nayabasti, where unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire at the woman before fleeing the scene. She sustained bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to a local hospital by her family members.

Police from Kaliachak Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the firing. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Faizal Reza was also present at the scene.

Investigators are probing the motive behind the attack and examining whether the victim had any links to unlawful activities. Preliminary suspicion suggests that a dispute over financial transactions may have led to the shooting.

Police officials said the woman will be questioned once her condition stabilises. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scrutinised to identify the assailants.

As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made. The situation in the area remains tense, with a large police force deployed and patrols underway to maintain law and order.
