Kolkata, 21 February (H.S.): Further strengthening its commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway launched a massive cleanliness and enforcement drive under the Clean and Garbage-Free Division campaign. According to a statement issued by the Sealdah Division on Saturday, the division conducted intensive cleaning and strict monitoring campaigns over the past two days.

As part of the division's targeted efforts, long-accumulated garbage was disposed of in high-traffic areas. At Bidhannagar Road station, which has a high passenger traffic, a special cleanliness drive was carried out keeping in mind the health and hygiene of passengers. The deployment of specialist teams removed approximately 1.5 tons of garbage from the station premises, reducing potential health risks and providing a clean environment for passengers.

In addition, extensive cleaning campaigns were also carried out at Tala, Baghajatin, Jadavpur, and Majerhat stations. More than five tons of garbage was removed from around these stations, significantly improving the environment and surroundings.

The Sealdah Division administration has clarified that a zero tolerance policy has been adopted to ensure permanent cleanliness. Cleaning drives will be followed by continuous monitoring, and those found littering on railway premises will be fined. During recent special drives, fines of ₹4,000 were collected from illegal shops in Santoshpur and Magrahat.

Street plays were organized at major stations in the division, including Sealdah station, to raise awareness among the administration and passengers. These creative presentations encouraged passengers to keep railway premises clean and avoid littering.

The Sealdah Division has appealed to all passengers to participate in the cleanliness drive, refrain from throwing garbage on tracks or platforms, and use only designated dustbins. Collective efforts can make travel safer, healthier, and more enjoyable.
