Guwahati, 21 February (HS): Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over seat-sharing talks, alleging that the party’s base in Upper Assam has weakened and that several constituencies in the region must be allotted to his party.
Addressing the media, Gogoi said public dissatisfaction with the Congress has reached its peak, claiming that people are increasingly disillusioned with the party. He asserted that instead of strengthening opposition unity, the Congress is more focused on promoting individual interests.
Referring to recent meetings on seat distribution, Gogoi alleged that personal candidates were given priority in Congress discussions rather than winnable or consensus nominees. He challenged the Congress to prove its strength by winning 60 out of 100 seats it intends to contest.
The Raijor Dal leader further stated that his party would take a final decision on the issue on Saturday. He added that the deadline given to the Congress regarding constituency allocation would also end today, indicating that a clear stand on seat sharing would be announced soon.---------
