Kanpur,

21 Feb (HS): Two adolescent boys were killed here after a ready-mix concrete

truck hit their scooter and drove over them in the driver's attempt to flee,

according to authorities.

On

late Friday night, an incident occurred on the Ganga Barrage Road, within the

jurisdiction of the Kohna police station.

The

victims were identified as Arsh (15) and Mohammad Ahmad (16). According to

reports, the truck driver fled the scene with the car and is currently at

large. According to authorities, the youngsters had gone out after iftar (the

evening meal during Ramzan) to give tarawih (night) prayers and were on their

way home when the tragedy occurred near the Ganga Barrage. The vehicle collided

with their scooter and, in an apparent attempt to flee, drove over the youths,

killing them on the spot, they added.

Armaan,

a friend of the dead who was following them on a second scooter, saw the

collision and informed their families. Arsh, the only child of wholesale

footwear dealer Farhat Izhar, was in Class 7. Ahmad, the second of three

siblings and son of Iqbal Ahmad, a readymade garment merchant, was studying

religion.

Local folks gathered at the scene shortly after the occurrence and reported it

to the police.

Personnel from the Kohna station raced to the scene and transported the victims

to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, but physicians pronounced them dead. Samajwadi

Party MLA Naseem Solanki also visited the site and extended his condolences to

the deceased families.

Archana

Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), said that the

remains had been submitted for a post-mortem. According to Singh, police have
