
Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Bhakti Nagar Police Station arrested three persons and seized 451 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jahedulla Momin, Iftarul, and Ram Kumar Mandal. Police also recovered Rs 19,000 in cash and a Sikkim-registered motorcycle from the accused.
According to police sources, Jahedulla Momin and Iftarul had arrived near Indira Gandhi Maidan on Thursday night on the motorcycle, allegedly carrying the consignment of brown sugar for delivery to Ram Kumar Mandal. Acting on specific inputs, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police intercepted the trio while they were in a suspicious condition.
During a search operation, 451 grams of brown sugar were recovered from a bag in their possession. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify other possible links in the drug trafficking network.
