Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.): In a tragic incident under the Kulti Police Station area of the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, a man allegedly shot his mother dead before taking his own life in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Raja Mukherjee and his mother, Sandhya Mukherjee.

According to family members, the household had been experiencing domestic discord for the past few days. The incident reportedly occurred at dawn. The victim’s father, Dayamay Mukherjee, stated that Raja first shot his mother and then died by suicide. A fire also broke out in the house during the incident.

Upon receiving information, police from Kulti Police Station and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

Preliminary information suggests that Raja Mukherjee was employed as a gunman at a private factory. Police suspect that ongoing family disputes may have led to the tragic sequence of events.

Both bodies have been sent to Asansol District Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
