South 24 Paragnas, 20 February (H.S.): Allegations have emerged that a large number of voters’ names have been repeatedly removed from the electoral rolls in the Canning (East) Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas. On Friday morning, MLA Shaukat Molla filed a written complaint at Jeevantala Police Station under the Canning (II) block.

The complaint states that despite being valid voters, people's names are being repeatedly removed from the list during the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process, causing significant difficulties for ordinary citizens in enrolling themselves in the electoral rolls. Shaukat Molla alleges that approximately 31,000 names have been systematically removed from the electoral rolls in the Canning (East) Assembly constituency.

The MLA alleged that this action was being taken at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party and that the National Election Commission was responsible for it. He filed a complaint against Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the Jeevantala Police Station. Several of the voters whose names were removed were also present with him at the time of the complaint.

Shaukat Mollah said, Ordinary people are being harassed in the name of the SIR. Despite repeated calls for hearings, their names are being removed from the voter list. This is all happening at the behest of the BJP, so we have filed a complaint against the Election Commissioner. In the coming days, FIRs will be filed against him in every police station in West Bengal.

According to police sources, the complaint has been taken into cognizance and an investigation is underway.
