
Chandrapur, 20 Feb (HS): Opposition to the proposed
iron ore mining project in in Lohardongri near Brahmapuri in Chandrapur
district, has increased. The region is a dense forest and is a habitat for 17 major
species of wild animals, including tiger, leopard, bear, jackal, fox, hyena, spotted
deer and others. The forest also has various varieties of birds and reptiles.
A former member of the Central Forest and
Environment Ministry and President of the Green Planet Society, Prof Suresh Chopne
said that the proposed mine would cause immense damage to forest, environment,
wild animals and cause pollution. The wildlife in the region will be affected
due to the mining project.
Prof Chopne has appealed to the politicians, social
leaders and common people to oppose the proposed iron ore mining project in
Lohardongri.
