
Mumbai, 20 Feb (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party’s Narayan
Chaudhari succeeded in getting elected as Mayor of Bhiwandi Municipal
Corporation. Chaudhari secured 48 votes against official BJP candidate Sneha
Patil who could muster only 16 votes.
BJP State Unit President Ravindra Chavan said that
Chaudhari was directed not to go against the official candidate. But he
rebelled with six other BJP candidates to become the Mayor, with the help of
Congress and NCP candidates. Congress candidate Momin Tariq was elected Deputy
Mayor by securing 43 votes.
In the 90 seat Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation
Congress had 30 seats, BJP 22, Shiv Sena 12, NCP (Sharad Pawar) 12, Samajwadi
Party 6, Konark Vikas Aghadi 4, Bhiwandi Vikas Aghadi 3 and one independent
candidate.
Ravindra Chavan said that the party will initiate
action against those who voted against the party directives.
