Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.): With winter gradually bidding farewell, a noticeable shift in weather conditions is being observed across West Bengal. The maximum temperature has already crossed the 30 degrees Celsius mark, although a mild chill continues to be felt during the early morning hours. Residents are now keenly watching how the weather will unfold in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s Alipore office, Kolkata is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 30°C and a minimum of approximately 20°C on Friday. Over the next two days, temperatures in the districts of South Bengal may rise by two to three degrees Celsius. However, no significant change in temperature is expected for the following three days thereafter.

In North Bengal, districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar are likely to witness relatively higher chances of fog. In contrast, no significant possibility of dense fog has been forecast for any district in South Bengal.

The weather department has also predicted light rainfall at one or two places in Purba Medinipur district on February 24.

On Friday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 19.2°C, which is 0.3 degrees below normal. On Thursday, the maximum temperature stood at 30.6°C, 0.6 degrees above normal. The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 78 percent, while the minimum was 33 percent.

No major fluctuations in Kolkata’s temperature are expected in the next few days. A slight rise in temperatures may also be observed in districts of North Bengal.-
