Bankura, 20 February (H.S.):

Despite receiving government assistance under the Bangla Awas Yojana, an elderly woman died in an accident before moving into her new house. The incident occurred in Bamira village, under the Patrasayar police station area. The deceased has been identified as Shobharani Ghoshal. Her husband, Ramprasad Ghoshal, was seriously injured in the accident.

According to local sources, the Ghoshal couple's old mud house was in a dilapidated condition. Consequently, the family applied for a new house under the Bangla Awas Yojana. After their names were included in the list, they received government funding and a new pucca house was also completed. However, for some reason, the couple did not move into the new house, and Shobharani continued to live with her husband in the old mud house. Other family members—son and daughter-in-law—lived separately.

As per information, the wall of the old house suddenly collapsed early Friday morning, killing Shobharani Ghoshal on the spot. Her husband was seriously injured after being buried under the wall and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Locals said that such a tragedy, even before moving into the new house, is extremely painful. Following the incident, the administration is also gathering information about the entire incident.
