Hooghly, 20 February (H.S.):
In a lengthy post on social media on Friday, Trinamool Congress MLA from Balagarh, Manoranjan Bepari, offered a sharp introspection on society, politics, and voter behavior. He wrote that the country gets the rulers it deserves, because rulers emerge from within society itself.
Raising questions about corruption, moral decay, and the tendency to lose integrity when given the opportunity, Manoranjan Bepari said that a large portion of society is on the wrong path today, thus choosing the wrong leadership. He also took a dig at voters, saying that people evaluate honesty in their personal lives but succumb to greed when voting.
He cited examples to illustrate that when society itself is rotten, it is futile to expect honest leadership. Concluding his post, he referred to the upcoming elections, saying that the harvest reaps the benefits of the seeds sown—only if the public becomes honest and aware will they elect better representatives.
