Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.):
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, informed through a social media post late Thursday night that Purnam Kumar Shaw, a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier from West Bengal, has been reinstated into the BSF. He expressed deep happiness over this decision.
Adhikari stated that Purnam Kumar Shaw was detained by Pakistani Rangers on April 23rd. His safe return was subsequently made possible through the efforts of the Indian Army and the central government. Under Army rules and procedures, he was not immediately reinstated to duty, but after detailed deliberation of his appeal and evaluation of his lengthy service record, it was decided to reinstate him to his old post.
He stated that Purnam Kumar Shaw has been immediately allowed to rejoin the 24th Battalion of the BSF.
The Leader of the Opposition expressed gratitude and thanks, on behalf of the people of West Bengal, to Home Minister Amit Shah for his timely intervention in this matter. He said that honoring the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers guarding the border further strengthens the morale of the security forces.
