Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.): Abhishek Banerjee, National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, on Friday expressed profound grief over the demise of Shillong MP Ricky A J Syngkon, describing him as a dedicated public representative committed to the welfare of the people.

The 54-year-old parliamentarian reportedly collapsed while playing futsal on the outskirts of Shillong on Thursday evening. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 8:45 pm.

In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee said he was deeply saddened by Syngkon’s passing. He noted that the Shillong MP represented the hopes and aspirations of his constituency with sincerity, conviction, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Banerjee further stated that in public life, Syngkon was known for his grounded approach, accessibility to the people, and steadfast commitment to regional identity and development.

Calling his untimely demise a profound loss for the people of Meghalaya and the larger democratic fraternity of the country, Banerjee extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and supporters during this difficult time.
