Thiruvananthapuram, 19 Feb (H.S.):

The transfer order was issued by the District Police Chief through the official wireless communication system during a routine morning conference. The officers transferred are Sub-Inspector Jose, who had been in charge of the station, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Binu.

According to police sources, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Poovar police station was on leave, and SI Jose had been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the station’s operations. During the district-level wireless meeting, the Superintendent of Police (SP) directed that both officers be relieved of their duties immediately and reassigned.

Preliminary information suggests that the action was taken in connection with allegations of bribery. SI Jose had reportedly come under scrutiny over suspected links with local sand mining operators, often referred to as the “sand mafia.” Intelligence inputs regarding the matter were said to have been submitted to the District Police Chief, prompting swift administrative action.

While police officials have not released detailed information about the nature of the allegations, sources indicate that the decision was based on an internal assessment following the intelligence report. The transfer is being viewed as a precautionary administrative measure pending further inquiry.

As per the SP’s directive, SI Jose has been asked to relinquish charge at the Poovar station and report to the Kilimanoor police station. ASI Binu has also been transferred, though details of his new posting have not been officially disclosed.

Senior officers have reiterated that the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct. Further investigation into the allegations is expected, and appropriate action will follow based on the findings.
