North 24 Paragnas, 19 February (H.S.): At least two people died on the spot and four others were seriously injured in a road accident near Dhankal More in Panihati in North 24 Parganas district, on Thursday morning. Tension prevailed in the area following the accident.

Two bus drivers were racing (rash driving) on BT Road. Meanwhile, one bus driver lost control and hit two cyclists riding on the roadside. Both cyclists died on the spot after being hit by the bus's wheels. The identities of the deceased have not yet been established.

Eyewitnesses reported that after hitting the cyclists, the bus also collided with an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle. Four people were seriously injured in the accident. The injured were immediately admitted to Sagar Dutt Medical College and Hospital, where their condition remains critical.

The incident sparked widespread anger among locals. The police recovered the bodies from the scene and sent them for post-mortem, and additional police forces have been deployed to control the situation.

Local residents said this is not the first time such an accident has occurred on BT Road. Numerous accidents have occurred here before, resulting in loss of life. Allegedly, bus drivers, in their quest to pick up passengers first, often drive at high speeds and recklessly, leading to such accidents. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are probing the role of the bus driver.
