Medinipur, 19 February (H.S.): A tragic incident occurred Wednesday night near Gopgarh Heritage and Eco-Park near Medinipur city. Locals discovered the bodies of a couple hanging from a tree. On information the police from Medinipur Kotwali police station immediately reached the scene, took down the bodies, and sent them to the Medinipur Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem.

The deceased have been identified as Pintu Das (38) and his wife, Madhumita Das (32), residents of the Banpara area of Medinipur. The couple has two minor children, a son and a daughter. Based on preliminary investigation, suicide is suspected.

The deceased, Pintu Das, worked in the medical field and also worked as a salesman. His brother, Krishna Das, stated that there was no dispute between Pintu and his wife, and they are unable to understand why the couple committed suicide.

Local residents said that Pintu Das had been under stress for some time due to excessive debt and constant pressure from creditors. Unable to bear the humiliation and mental anguish, he may have taken this extreme step.

Mozammel Hussain, Trinamool Congress councillor for Ward No. 13, said that Pintu had a significant debt that he was unable to repay. The couple took this shocking step due to the constant humiliation from creditors.

West Midnapore district police have launched an investigation into the matter. The police are investigating every aspect to determine the exact cause of the suicide.
