Junnar, 19 Feb (HS): Several people were injured in

a stampede-like situation on Shivneri Fort where a large number of people

visited to celebrate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

People had started pouring in since midnight separating Wednesday and Thursday.

Security personnel and volunteers had

tough time in managing the crowd, particularly near the narrow Hatti Darwaja

and Ganesh Darwaja. The crowd on the narrow road and gate and started pushing

each other. A majority of those injured in melee were women and children.

The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Junnar

in Pune district. The Shivneri Fort near Junnar city is the birth place of

Shivaji Maharaj. No casualty has been reported.

The local administration has taken steps to carry

out the event peacefully.
