Bankura, 19 February (H.S.): A shocking incident came to light on Thursday morning when farmers discovered the body of a newborn baby girl half-submerged in muddy soil while transplanting paddy in Jaipur police station area of Bankura district. The discovery left the farmers stunned, and the police were immediately informed.

According to local sources and the police, some farmers in Belia Dangarpada village, part of Shyamnagar Gram Panchayat, under Jaipur block of Bankura, were in the field to plant paddy on Thursday morning. They discovered the body of a newborn baby girl lying in the mud near a submersible pump in a corner of the field. The baby's body was half-submerged in the mud.

As news spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene. On information, the police from Jaipur police station arrived at the scene and recovered the body from the mud. The body was then taken to the Jaipur Primary Health Center, where doctors declared her dead. The body was later sent to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem.

The mystery remains as to who, when, and under what circumstances the newborn baby girl was thrown into the field. The police are gathering information in nearby villages, local nursing homes and health centres to find out whether any deliveries had taken place recently.
