Kolkata, 19 February (H.S.) : The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, is gearing up to contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, focusing on minority migrant workers as its main point of criticism against the ruling Trinamool Congress.

AIMIM leaders have reportedly begun a whispering campaign in minority-dominated districts such as Malda and Murshidabad, as well as constituencies with significant minority populations in Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and Howrah. A state-level AIMIM leader stated, “A majority of migrant workers from West Bengal belong to the minority community. This demonstrates that the Trinamool Congress government has never seriously pursued the economic and social upliftment of Muslim youth through employment generation. We are approaching minority voters to highlight that the party’s much-publicized pro-minority stance is largely symbolic.”

The party claimed that its efforts are already showing results. In several minority-dominated areas, migrant workers and their families, previously loyal to the Trinamool Congress since 2011, have reportedly shifted allegiance to AIMIM. “They now understand that what Muslim youth need is employment, not mere symbolic gestures, which the current Trinamool regime cannot provide,” the AIMIM leader added.

AIMIM is expected to contest the West Bengal Assembly elections in alliance with the Janata Unnayan Party, formed by suspended Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir. The party has also indicated openness to discussions with the CPI(M)-led Left Front, although no formal confirmation has been received from the Left leadership.
