Bhubaneswar, 19 February (H.S.): The Odisha government is examining proposals for the creation of 66 new sub-divisions across the state, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari informed the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
In a written reply, the Minister said the government has received multiple representations seeking new sub-divisions and that the proposals are currently under detailed scrutiny. A final decision will be taken after assessing administrative feasibility and other relevant considerations.
According to him, the highest number of demands has come from Bargarh, Ganjam and Koraput districts. The proposals primarily cite the need for improved administrative efficiency, better delivery of public services and faster implementation of development programmes.
The move follows the government’s recent invitation for suggestions regarding the creation of new districts for the 2026–27 financial year. Earlier, the Assembly was informed that memoranda seeking the formation of 31 new districts had already been submitted.
