Siliguri, 18 February (H.S.) : Security agencies have intensified monitoring in the Siliguri “Chicken Neck” corridor of West Bengal, a critical passage linking India’s northeastern states with the rest of the country. A large-scale security operation was carried out across the area on Wednesday morning.
At key locations, including the major Mahananda Bridge, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel conducted thorough inspections. Vehicles were stopped for document verification, and suspicious activities were closely monitored. Searches were also carried out beneath and around the bridge.
Officials stressed the corridor’s strategic significance, noting that any infiltration, smuggling, or potential terrorist activity in this narrow stretch could threaten national security. Surveillance and patrolling in the area have been significantly increased.
Experts noted that such precautionary operations in sensitive regions are expected to continue periodically, considering the prevailing national security scenario. Authorities assured the public that these measures are purely precautionary and there is no immediate threat to civilians.
