
Bhubaneswar, 18 February (H.S.): A training programme for newly appointed Assistant Executive Engineers was inaugurated by the Works Department, with emphasis on modern technology adoption and construction quality to support the state’s infrastructure development goals.
Addressing the inaugural session as chief guest, Works, Law and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said Odisha is progressing rapidly under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. He noted that the state has set a target of becoming a developed Odisha by 2036, while the Centre aims for a developed India by 2047.
The minister stressed that the dream of development cannot be realised without strong infrastructure. He highlighted the need to utilise modern technologies and ensure quality construction standards. The government, he said, is working to implement advanced construction practices adopted in major cities and aims to build world-class roads across the state. Regular maintenance and improved traffic management would help make roads pothole-free in the coming years.
Calling the present era one of advanced technology and artificial intelligence, Harichandan urged the newly recruited engineers to gain knowledge through training, discharge their duties with integrity and punctuality, and actively contribute to the state’s development journey.
Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabinarayan Naik, who attended as guest of honour, said strengthening connectivity from rural areas to major urban centres is essential for real development. He encouraged engineers to apply new techniques and technical knowledge in road and bridge construction and stated that engineers would serve as key drivers of development after sharpening their skills through the training programme.
At the inaugural ceremony, Chief Engineer of the Works Department Er. Satyabrata Behera delivered the welcome address, while Chief Engineer of the Rural Development Department Er. Pradeep Kumar Jena proposed the vote of thanks.
