New Delhi, 08 January (H.S.): Congress media chief Pawan Khera launched a scathing attack on Thursday against the government's Swachhata Survey rankings and Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal Yojana), citing over 18 deaths from contaminated water in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district Bhagirathpura area as damning evidence of their failure.

Addressing a press conference at Congress headquarters, Khera highlighted Indore's nine consecutive top spots in national cleanliness surveys, declaring the tragedy exposes the sham of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Har Ghar Jal Yojana. He revealed a pipeline replacement contract approved on July 22, 2022, yet left unimplemented, allowing sewage to infiltrate drinking supplies.

Khera drew parallels to surging typhoid cases in Gujarat's Gandhinagar—glossed over in silence—and Delhi's water woes, quipping that under AAP rule water ran black, but now under BJP it flows yellow. Citing the International Center for Sustainability report, he claimed 70% of India's water stands contaminated, accusing the BJP regime of diverting attention from real issues despite billions spent on Har Ghar Jal.

What was delivered to homes was not water but sewage-mixed filth, with direct government accountability, Khera charged, questioning the fate of Asian Development Bank funds earmarked for the scheme—transforming Har Ghar Jal Yojana into a grim Har Ghar Mal Yojana.
