New Delhi, 08 January (H.S.): The Election Commission of India convened a crucial meeting with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from across the nation on Thursday at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), ahead of the landmark India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICD-EM) scheduled from January 21-23 in the capital.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, briefed all CEOs on the conference's features, intricacies, and their specific roles. Discussions spanned 36 thematic groups—each led by designated CEOs for IICD-EM 2026—covering every facet of election management to build a rich knowledge repository from global Election Management Bodies (EMBs).

Positioned as India's largest global conclave on election management and democracy, IICD-EM 2026 will host nearly 100 international delegates representing EMBs worldwide, international organizations, foreign missions in India, and academic/practitioner experts in elections.

Key events include the inaugural session, full EMB leaders' plenary, working group meetings, ECI-Net launch, and thematic sessions on global electoral issues, international standards, best practices, and innovations.

Over 40 bilateral meetings and 36 breakout sessions feature prominently, with participation from 4 IITs, 6 IIMs, 12 NLUs, IIMC, state/UT CEOs, and national/international academic experts engaging in deliberations.
