New Delhi, 05 January (H.S.): Amid growing concerns over U.S. tariff hikes, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to Brussels this week to advance negotiations on the proposed India-European Union (EU) trade agreement. Goyal is scheduled to meet with his EU counterpart to discuss ways to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties.
Official sources confirmed on Monday that Minister Goyal will depart for Brussels on Tuesday night. During his two-day official visit on January 8 and 9, he will hold talks with Maros Sefcovic, Executive Vice-President and European Trade Commissioner of the EU.
Before arriving in Brussels, Goyal will make a stopover in Liechtenstein to discuss strategies for enhancing trade and investment relations. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal will accompany him on this trip. The India-EU trade negotiations are currently in their final stages, signaling a crucial phase in bilateral economic diplomacy.
Liechtenstein is a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), along with Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland. India and EFTA implemented a Free Trade Agreement on October 1, 2025, marking a significant step in regional trade cooperation.
