New Delhi, 07 January (H.S.): Domestic stock markets opened on a weak note today, with both the Sensex and Nifty trading in the red during the initial hour of trade. Despite attempts by buyers to push the markets higher at several points, the key indices remained under pressure, reflecting cautious investor sentiment.

After one hour of trading, the Sensex was down 0.09 percent, while the Nifty slipped 0.05 percent. The BSE Sensex opened at 84,620.40, down 442.94 points from the previous close. During the opening hour, the index saw sharp fluctuations, briefly recovering to 85,039.48 on buying support before falling back to 84,617.49 on selling pressure.

By 10:15 a.m., the Sensex was trading at 84,988.90, down 74.44 points.Similarly, the NSE Nifty began the day at 26,143.10, lower by 35.60 points. The index oscillated between 26,166.70 and 26,096.65 as bulls and bears battled for control. By 10:15 a.m., the Nifty was at 26,165.95, down 12.75 points.

Among heavyweight stocks, Titan Company, Apollo Hospitals, HCL Technologies, Infosys, and Tata Consumer Products showed strength, gaining between 0.27 percent and 4.06 percent. On the other hand, shares of Cipla, TVS Motor Company, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, and ONGC were in the red, declining between 0.72 percent and 2.01 percent.

Across the broader market, 2,577 stocks were actively traded, with 1,365 advancing and 1,212 declining. In the Sensex basket, 12 stocks were in the green, while 18 were in the red. In the Nifty 50, 17 stocks gained, while 33 were trading lower.

Yesterday, on Tuesday, the Sensex closed at 85,063.34, down 376.28 points (0.44 percent), while the Nifty ended at 26,178.70, lower by 71.60 points (0.27 percent).
