Agartala, 18 January (HS): Tripura has positioned itself among the leading states in good governance and is gradually shaping the policy direction for the Northeastern region, Chief Minister Prof (Dr) Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Speaking at the Good Governance Day programme held at Pragna Bhavan, the chief minister said Tripura’s consistent focus on institutional reforms and data-driven policymaking has earned it recognition as the country’s seventh front-runner state in governance. Over the past eight years, the state has received 347 national and regional awards, reflecting improvements in administrative efficiency and public service delivery.
Saha described good governance as an ongoing process rooted in transparency, accountability and measurable outcomes, aimed at strengthening trust between the government and citizens. He said the state took a major step in this direction with the creation of the Good Governance Department in August 2023, followed by the establishment of the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) in December the same year under the guidance of NITI Aayog.
According to the chief minister, TIFT has since been acknowledged by NITI Aayog as one of the seven leading state-level policy institutions in the country. He said the institution has played a crucial role in policy planning, monitoring of development projects and administrative reforms.
Highlighting further initiatives, Saha said the government has implemented record management and asset management policies and has also introduced a district-level good governance index. The index, he added, helps assess administrative performance in key sectors including health, education, infrastructure and social welfare.
Chief Secretary J K Sinha said Tripura’s governance efforts have drawn appreciation from the central government. Director General of Police Anurag addressed issues related to law and order, while Good Governance Secretary Kiran Gitte presented an overview of ongoing and upcoming initiatives. Senior officials and district administrators were also present at the programme.----------
