Chennai, 18 January (H.S.) : The Regional Meteorological Centre, RMC, has announced that the Northeast monsoon is expected to withdraw from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and adjacent south Indian regions within the next 48 hours.

According to the latest weather forecast issued on Sunday, dry weather conditions are likely to prevail across these regions for the next four days. This shift in weather patterns comes as a lower atmospheric circulation currently prevails over the Comorin Sea.

Between January 18 and 20, the RMC predicts continued dry weather with light fog likely at isolated places during the early morning hours. This trend is expected to persist through January 21 and 22.

However, a slight change is anticipated on January 23, when light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, while interior districts remain dry. By January 24, light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations across the state.

In Chennai and its surrounding suburbs, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with light fog in the early morning hours. The maximum temperature will hover around 31 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Authorities have also issued a warning for fishermen, advising them not to venture into the south Tamil Nadu coastal areas, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin Sea due to strong winds reaching speeds of 55 kilometers per hour.
