Kochi, 18 January(HS) : Vellappali Natesan, general secretary, Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, an umbrella organization of the economically and socially powerful Eezhava community in the State on Sunday set the agenda for the upcoming assembly election in Kerala expected to be held in the month of March-April 2026.
Addressing a media meet at Alappuzha, Natesan said that the Eezhava and Nair communities would work together to consolidate all Hindus in the State irrespective of the caste factors that divide them.
‘Our mission is to form a joint front featuring all communities ranging from the tribals to the Nazrani (Malayalam name for Christians). We will not allow any communal outfits to hijack Kerala politics,” said Natesan.
He also said that the Congress has lost its credibility as the party is always dancing to the communal tunes played by Muslim League and other Islamist organizations. “ A K Antony, former chief minister was shunted out from the chair following the revolt staged by Muslim League and other Islamist outfits. This was the fall out of the Marad massacre of 2004 in which eight Hindu fishermen were slaughtered on Maradu beach in Kozhikode,” said Natesan.
He made it clear that he has no reservation against the Muslim community per se but the genuflections of the Congress to the communal organization is a matter of serious concern, he said.
Before the press meet, Natesan had called on G Sukumaran Nair, general secretary of Nair Service Society.
The meeting of the community leaders lasted for one hour. “We have formally decided to work for saving Kerala from the shackles of communal outfits. The SNDP is convening its leaders for a comprehensive discussion on 21st January and will call on Nair after that conclave,” said Natesan.
He pointed out the demand made by Muslim League leaders to the Congress High Command to allocate more seats to the party in southern districts as part of its mission to expand its foothold all over the State.
“The Muslim League and Islamic outfits are the forces that control the agenda of the Congress-led UDF government. One advantage of the LDF regime is that the State has not experienced any communal riots during the last decade,” said the SNDP Yogam General Secretary.
Reacting to Leader of Opposition V D Satheeshan terming him as an communalist, Natesan scoffed at the former by describing him as a mere upstart.
“There are many senior leaders of the Congress in Kerala. A K Antony, Ramesh Chennithala, K Sudhakaran are some of the veteran leaders who command respect in the State. Does this man Satheeshan fit anywhere in that group?” asked Natesan.
