Thiruvananthapuram , 17 Jan (H.S.):A crucial scientific examination report concerning the gold ornaments at the Sabarimala shrine will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) today, marking a decisive moment in the ongoing probe.

The report was prepared by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) following a detailed forensic analysis of the gold components associated with the temple. On Tuesday, the findings were submitted in a sealed cover to the Kollam Vigilance Court, from where the court will formally transmit the document to the SIT today.

Investigators believe the report could shape the future course of the investigation. The scientific tests were designed to determine whether the gold plating on the ornaments had been altered or replaced, whether the gold sheets currently in use are original or newly fitted, and to assess the precise purity and quantity of gold used. These findings are expected to address key allegations that have fueled public debate and legal scrutiny.

Once the SIT receives the report, officials said it will be examined in detail before deciding on subsequent legal and investigative steps. Sources indicated that any confirmation of discrepancies could widen the scope of the probe and lead to further questioning and technical verification.

Meanwhile, developments are also expected on the custodial status of former Travancore Devaswom Board member K.P. Sankaradas, who is presently under remand. Sankaradas, currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, is set to be shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital later today. The transfer follows a report submitted by the jail doctor, stating that treatment at the government medical college would be sufficient.

Officials said the SIT will continue to coordinate with medical authorities to ensure custodial procedures are followed while the investigation proceeds, with the VSSC report now expected to play a central role in determining the next phase of action.
