
Jammu, 15 January (H.S.): The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has finalised arrangements for the celebration of Republic Day–2026, with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha set to preside over and take the salute at the main function to be held at M.A. Stadium, Jammu, while the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will attend the event as the Chief Guest.
According to an official communication issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) to Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, different ministers and dignitaries have been assigned to preside over Republic Day functions and take the salute at various district headquarters across the Union Territory on January 26, 2026.
As per the schedule, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the Republic Day function at Srinagar, while Health and Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo will take the salute at Anantnag. Minister Javed Ahmed Rana has been assigned Poonch, Minister Javid Ahmad Dar will preside over the function at Baramulla, and Minister Satish Sharma will take the salute at Kathua.
The order further states that at district headquarters not covered by the above ministers, the DDC Chairpersons will preside over the Republic Day functions. At sub-divisional headquarters, the responsibility has been assigned to the Sub-Divisional Magistrates, while at tehsil, block and municipal headquarters, the salute will be taken by the Tehsildar or the senior-most civil officer, as decided by the concerned Deputy Commissioners.
The government has directed all concerned authorities to ensure smooth, dignified and well-coordinated celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir to mark the national event.
