
New Delhi, 14 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth Countries tomorrow, Thursday. The event will take place in the Central Hall of Constitution Dan at the Parliament House complex, followed by an address from the Prime Minister.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will chair the conference. It will feature a total of 61 Speakers and presiding officers from 42 Commonwealth countries and four semi-autonomous parliaments.The conference will feature extensive deliberations on contemporary parliamentary topics.
Key areas include the role of Speakers and presiding officers in building strong democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on parliamentarians, innovations to enhance public awareness of Parliament, and strategies to encourage citizen participation beyond voting.
