Turkman Gate Violence: Police Arrest Two More Rioters, Total Reaches 18

New Delhi, 11 January (H.S.): Delhi Police intensified their crackdown on Sunday in the Turkman Gate violence case, arresting two additional accused linked to the clashes during an anti-encroachment drive near Dargah Faiz-e-Ilahi Masjid in Old Delhi's Turkman Gate area.

The latest detainees, Fahim alias Sanu (30) from Gali Gudiyan, Turkman Gate, and Mohammad Shehzad (29) from Kuche Mir Hashim Bazaar, Chitli Qabar, Chandni Mahal, bring the total arrests to 18.

According to police statements, both accused were present at the scene during the unrest, actively instigating the mob and participating in stone-pelting. Technical surveillance and video footage facilitated their identification and apprehension. Previously, authorities had detained Mohammad Naved, Mohammad Faiz, and Mohammad Ubaidullah from Turkman Gate in connection with the incident.

The violence erupted abruptly as encroachers resisted removal efforts, hurling stones at police and municipal teams, sparking widespread chaos. Additional forces were swiftly deployed to restore order.

Recognizing the case's gravity, specialized teams have been constituted, leveraging CCTV footage, incident videos, body-worn cameras, and facial recognition technology for thorough investigation. Over 50 suspects remain in custody for interrogation to ascertain their roles.
