West Bengal, 11 January (H.S.): Politics in West Bengal has heated up following the alleged attack on the car of Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP MLA from Nandigram. He alleged that his car was attacked and his path blocked in the Chandrakona Road market area of Garbeta on Saturday evening. In protest against the incident, Suvendu Adhikari staged a sit-in protest in front of Chandrakona Road police outpost.

The BJP alleged that Trinamool Congress workers attacked Suvendu Adhikari's car with bamboo sticks and blocked his way, holding up traffic for about an hour. The incident occurred while he was returning from a public meeting in Purulia.

Suvendu Adhikari claimed that around 8:30 PM, after crossing Chandrakona Road intersection, a person associated with the ruling party blocked his vehicle's path. The situation then became tense. Adhikari reached the police outpost and began a sit-in protest there. He said that his protest would continue until the accused were arrested.

Following the incident, senior BJP leader Amit Malviya launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Posting on the social media platform X late Saturday night, Malviya alleged that the attack on the Leader of the Opposition was indicative of political violence stemming from the ruling party's desperation.

Amit Malviya said that misuse of power, intimidation of institutions, and encouragement of violence have become commonplace, but despite this, the BJP cannot be stopped. He also said that the people of West Bengal are watching everything and will give a befitting reply to corruption and the politics of intimidation in the 2026 assembly elections.
