Guwahati, 11 January (HS): In a significant political development, several prominent leaders formally joined the Indian National Congress on Sunday in the presence of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi. The joining programme was held at the Manabendra Sharma Complex in Guwahati.

Among those who joined the Congress were former All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) president Rezaul Karim Sarkar and several former vice-presidents of the organisation. Mising community leader Rupa Kumar Medhi, who had served for a long time as president of the MMK, also joined the Congress on the occasion.

The programme also witnessed the induction of BJP political affairs committee member Manoj Kumar Mahanta, along with Chila Basumatary, Arun Basumatary, Mrinmoy Kalita, Alkesh Medhi and several other prominent personalities, who formally embraced the Congress party.

A number of senior Congress leaders were present at the event, including All India Congress Committee secretary Manoj Chauhan, reflecting the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisational base ahead of the upcoming political challenges.----------
