Champahati firecracker factory blast: One injured succumbs at hospital


South 24 Paragnas, 11 January (H.S.): One of the men injured in the explosion at a firecracker factory in the Champahati area of South 24 Parganas district died in the hospital late Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Gaurhari Gangopadhyay. He had been admitted to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata in critical condition.

According to family sources, Gaurhari died around 12:30 AM on Saturday night. Hospital sources said that the young man had suffered 100 percent burns. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, he could not be saved.

Three other people injured in the same explosion are still undergoing treatment. Kishan Adhikari, a firecracker factory worker, is being treated at MR Bangur Hospital. According to hospital sources, about 30 percent of his body is burned, and his condition is currently reported to be stable. Two other injured men, Biswajit Mandal and Rahul Pui, are being treated at a private hospital near Panchasayar area. According to doctors, Rahul's condition is extremely critical, and he has suffered burns over approximately 95 percent of his body.

Notably, the explosion occurred on Saturday morning at a firecracker factory located in Harale area of Champahati. The intensity of the blast blew off the asbestos roof and completely demolished the brick structure. Some nearby houses were also damaged, and several trees were burned.
