11 Jan (HS): On Sunday morning,

police personnel were deployed and barricades were erected around the residence

of Congress state president Ajay Rai in the Chetganj police station area. Rai

was also placed under house arrest.

Seeing the barricades around his

house, Congress state president Ajay Rai said that he and his colleagues who

were going to Varanasi to protest the renaming of MNREGA have been placed under

house arrest to prevent them. The local police have erected barricades outside

his house. “Yet, he is not going to stop or be intimidated,” claimed party

leaders.

Meanwhile,

the Inspector-in-Charge of Chetganj Police Station stated that Ajay Rai has

been placed under house arrest and barricades have been erected around his

house following his announcement of a protest. Officers from the Varanasi

Commissionerate Police are also present at the scene.
