Hooghly, 4 August (H.S.): An incident of robbery took place in a jewellery shop located some distance from the national highway in Dankuni area of Hooghly district on Sunday evening. As per information, some youths entered the jewellery showroom located on the ground floor of a multi-storey building on Sunday evening posing as customers. Shortly after, some more youths entered the shop and started looting at gunpoint.
According to eyewitnesses, the four accused were talking in both Hindi and Bengali languages. All of them had weapons in their hands and attacked the people present in the shop and injured them.
The robbers looted a large amount of gold jewellery and fled. The police have started scanning the CCTV footage of the shop. Also, the footage of the national highway and the adjoining roads is also being scanned. Others police stations of the district have been alerted.
Notably, a similar robbery incident had also taken place in Champahati area of South 24 Parganas district a few days ago.
According to police sources, the incidents of Dankuni and Champahati may be linked to each other.
