Imphal, 04 August (HS): In a coordinated crackdown on insurgent groups, security forces apprehended eight militants associated with four banned outfits during multiple operations across Manipur, police said on Monday.

According to officials, five rebels of the proscribed KCP (PWG) outfit were arrested from separate locations in Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts. Those taken into custody were identified as M Premkumar Singh (28), Yambem Shital Singh (39), Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38), Khongbantabam Inaocha Devi (52) and Oinam Naoba Singh (18). They are suspected to be involved in a range of criminal activities, including extortion, firing incidents, kidnapping and illegal possession of arms. A 9mm pistol, a magazine, and a cartridge were recovered from them.

In another raid, personnel nabbed Heisnam Bobo Singh (37), an active cadre of KCP (Taibanganba), from his residence at Haobam Marak in Imphal West. He is accused of threatening educational institutions and demanding money across the Imphal Valley.

Elsewhere, Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei (24), affiliated with the PREPAK group, was arrested from Itham Thongkhong in Imphal East. Police also detained Nepram Hari Meitei (19), a suspected operative of KCP (Noyon), from a farmland near his home in Lamlai Chingkhu.

Authorities stated that all eight militants were engaged in unlawful activities and that investigations are underway to unearth their wider networks and handlers.
