Barpeta (Assam), 03 August (HS): A vehicle involved in cattle theft overturned at Guwagacha near Barpeta Road on Saturday morning, leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of two stolen cows.
According to police sources, the vehicle lost control at high speed and overturned into a roadside pond. Locals rushed to the spot upon hearing of the crash. While some of the suspects managed to flee, the driver was caught by residents along with the stolen cattle.
The arrested individual has been identified as Royal Talukdar. Two cows were also recovered from the vehicle, which was seized by the locals before police arrived.
The incident created a tense situation in the Guwagacha area. Locals claim the vehicle had stolen the cows from an unidentified location and was fleeing toward Barpeta Road when it crashed.
Police recovered multiple number plates from the vehicle, raising suspicions that the gang may have been using different plates to evade detection. Further investigation is underway.
