Aurraiya, 03 Aug
(HS): The severe
floods in the Yamuna and Chambal rivers in the district have ruined the hard
work of the farmers of the district. Thousands of bighas of crops have been
completely destroyed in many villages of Ajitmal and Auraiya tehsil area of
Auraiya district. The millet crop has suffered the most damage due to the
flood. The farmers' entire year's earnings have been wasted, due to which they
are in a huge financial crisis. Rajveer Sharma, a farmer resident of village
Aseva in Ajitmal tehsil area, said that he had sown millet crop in his 18 bigha
land but the river water entered the fields and the entire crop drowned and
rotted. According to Rajveer, I had spent thousands of rupees on seeds,
fertilizers and pesticides on this crop. I had also borne the cost of ploughing
with a tractor, but now everything is over.
Similarly, the
crops of dozens of farmers have been destroyed. The affected farmers are
demanding relief and proper compensation from the administration. Farmers say
that until they get compensation for the loss, it will not be possible to sow
the next crop.
Farmers have
demanded from the district administration that the area be surveyed immediately
and proper financial assistance be given to the farmers affected by the flood.
Not only have the crops been destroyed by the flood, but future farming has
also come under threat due to sand and mud filling the fields. Ajitmal
Sub-District Magistrate Nikhil Rajput said that a team will be formed soon to
assess the damage to the crops and proper compensation will be given to the
farmers.
