Gonda, 03 Aug (HS): According to authorities, an SUV plunged
into the Saryu canal in the area on Sunday, killing 11 people and injuring four
others. Krishn Gopal Rai, Station House Officer (SHO) of Itiathok Police
Station, stated that the victims were on their way from Sihagaon village to
give holy water at the Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur when the tragedy
happened near Belwa Bahuta. Rai stated that the SUV was carrying 15 passengers,
including the driver. With the assistance of locals and rescue services, 11
dead were rescued from the submerged car. Prime Minister Narendra Modi
expressed condolences over the deaths and provided an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh
from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for each deceased's next of kin.
The injured will receive Rs 50,000, he added.
He remarked on X that he is deeply
pained by the deaths caused by an accident in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.Condolences to those who have lost loved ones
in the accident.May the injured recover
quickly. Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police, stated the disaster killed
six ladies, two men, and three children. The victims were named Beena (35),
Kajal (22), Mehak (12), Durgesh, Nandini, Ankit, Shubh, Sanju Verma, Anju,
Anasuya, and Saumya. The SP stated that four individuals, including the SUV
driver, were rescued and sent to a hospital. Rahul Verma, an Itiyathok resident
and eyewitness to the collision, stated that the road was treacherous owing to
rain in the morning.
The SUV was driving down the road near
to the canal when the driver engaged the brakes, causing it to slip and fall
into the canal, he added. We quickly called the police and locals to the scene
and used a rope to take out the SUV, he claimed. A young girl who survived the
tragedy stated, We were all going to visit the Prithvinath
temple.During the tragedy, the
ladies and girls were singing 'bhajans'. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
expressed condolences for the deaths in the tragedy and provided a Rs 5 lakh
financial aid to the victims' families.
On Sunday, Yogi
expressed tremendous grief for the deaths of 11 pilgrims in Gonda. The Chief
Minister described the occurrence as heartbreaking and declared ex-gratia of Rs
5 lakh apiece for the relatives of the deceased, as well as directing officials
to ensure that injured people received prompt medical treatment. In a post on X, CM Yogi said, The loss
of life in an unfortunate accident in Gonda is extremely tragic and
heartbreaking. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the grieving families.
Instructions were provided to offer financial aid of Rs 05-05 lakh to the
family of those who died, and district administration officials to quickly
transport injured people to hospitals for medical care.
I pray to Lord Shri Ram that departed souls reach redemption, bereaved families
find fortitude to bear immense grief, and injured people heal quickly. Om
