Dehradun, August 3 (H.S.): Under the Chief Minister’s good governance and public service commitment, the district administration is working in proactive mode to ensure immediate resolution of drinking water supply issues. District Magistrate Savin Bansal has directed all departmental officials related to water supply to promptly resolve any crisis, shortage, or problem — even during the monsoon season.
Since April 14, the control room has received 251 complaints related to drinking water, out of which 247 have already been resolved. The DM instructed that uninterrupted daily water supply to every household must be ensured, and any complaint about water shortage should be resolved the same day. In line with these directives, a district-level committee headed by the ADM has been formed to monitor water-related grievances on a regular basis. Since April 20, officials from seven departments related to water supply have been stationed 24/7 at the district control room.
Regarding a potential hazard due to overflow and leakage from a water tank built under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Kandoli village (Sahaspur block), a junior engineer from the Drinking Water Corporation reported that a site inspection was conducted and no leakage was found in the tank. Due to heavy rainfall, excess water from the Maldoong River was entering the tank through the supply pipe, leading to overflow. The issue has now been controlled using the first valve in the supply line, and there is no longer any danger.
In another case, Sanjay Nautiyal from Jakhan, Dehradun, reported continued supply of dirty water. On the DM’s instructions, a team from the water department was immediately dispatched to the site. The damaged pipeline was repaired on the spot, and clean water supply has now resumed for the consumers.
In Rajendra Nagar, where complaints of muddy water were received, the Assistant Engineer of the Water Department explained that due to low groundwater levels, only five tube wells are able to fill the overhead tank. A proposal to resolve this issue has been prepared and sent to the government. The tank water supply in the area has been inspected, and currently, clean drinking water is being supplied.
Following the District Magistrate’s orders, regular monitoring is being carried out in water-scarce areas, and uninterrupted power supply to tube wells and borewells is being ensured. Toll-free numbers have also been publicized in all divisions of the Water Institute and Water Corporation to address complaints. Additionally, complaints received on the control room’s toll-free numbers — 0135-2726066 and 1077 — are being promptly addressed.
