Imphal, 03 August (HS): Security forces in Manipur launched a string of targeted operations across multiple districts on August 1 and 2, leading to the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in insurgent activities, extortion, and large-scale narcotics trafficking.

In a major breakthrough in last 24 hours, Imphal East police apprehended Ngangbam Amarjit Singh alias Nono (37), a suspected operative of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), from his residence in Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai. Accused of extortion, intimidation, and past involvement in a doctor’s abduction, Singh was found with a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card.

In another operation, Yaikhom Moramba Singh (21), believed to be associated with the KCP (MFL) faction, was caught in Mantripukhri under Heingang Police Station. Allegations against him include extorting funds from civilians and seizing weapons from state personnel. He was carrying a bag containing ₹10,000 in cash, alongside personal identification.

On the same day, police in Imphal West arrested Wahengbam Isriel Singh alias Chalamba (47), a self-styled “Major” of the KCP, from Langol Type-II area under Lamphel jurisdiction. Known for threatening government officials and Panchayat members in Bishnupur district, he was taken into custody with a mobile phone and SIM card.

Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, anti-narcotics personnel intercepted a woman, Chiinlunniang (39), near Mata village. Travelling in a Bolero pickup, she was caught with approximately 2.4 kg of WY tablets—commonly trafficked methamphetamine pills.

In a separate but related crackdown in Kangpokpi district, security forces detained three persons under the NDPS Act. Identified as Lhingneichong alias Hechong Hanshing (42), Rebecca Haokip, and Paotinkai Khongsai, the trio was arrested from two separate locations. Authorities recovered 2.61 kg of brown sugar, 2.88 kg of opium, 140 grams of cannabis, ₹23,110 in cash, and 14 mobile phones during the raids.

The series of arrests reflects the ongoing effort by law enforcement to curb insurgency and drug networks operating in the state.
