Kamrup (Assam), 03 August (HS): In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly seized 50 kilograms of banned marijuana from a train at Rangia Railway Junction, police informed.

Acting on a tip-off from the police intelligence unit, the joint team carried out a search operation on Train No. 09526, which was stationed at Platform No. 5 and headed towards Down Hapalo. During the search, a large quantity of marijuana was discovered concealed in the toilet of one of the train coaches.

While the contraband was successfully recovered, the suspected smugglers managed to flee the scene before being apprehended. Authorities estimate the market value of the seized ganja to be in lakhs, though an exact valuation is yet to be determined.

Police have launched an investigation and intensified surveillance to trace and arrest the absconding culprits. The GRP and RPF have reaffirmed their commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking through Assam’s railway routes.
